A painter's costs Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
A painter's costs - Research Paper Example 3) When a 1 percent rise in price evokes less than a 1 percent fall in quantity demanded, this is price inelastic. From the value that we have obtained, we then know that paint as a commodity is price elastic. How does this relate to revenue for companies? Total revenue is equal to price times quantity or PXQ. The three cases of elasticity correspond to three different relationships between total revenue and price changes: If a price decrease leads to a decrease in total revenue, it is a case of inelastic demand. If a price decrease leads to an increase in total revenue, it is the case of elastic demand. And if a price decrease leads to no change in total revenue, it may be the case of unit-elastic demand. Since our good is price elastic, it may be wise for firms to lower their prices if they are to expect an increase in total revenue or profits because slashing their prices down, they are hiking their sales up by a larger magnitude.

The Myth of Horoscope Is Not True Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
The Myth of Horoscope Is Not True - Essay Example However, I personally think the myth of horoscopy is not completely true. It is an unrealistic approach towards astronomy and a combination of psychological theories and techniques which effects peopleââ¬â¢s imagination and beliefs. Before talking about the truth of horoscope, it is important to know that where it came from. It can be traced back in Mesopotamia five thousand years ago; where many different races such as Babylonians and Assyrian lived. Their original religion had certain level of believe in celestial body. In fact, astronomy was practiced as horoscopy during that time period. They used to relate certain stars with the animal or human image. Later in about 592 B.C., Greeks named the images on sky after their gods and created stories to explain about their existence in sky. These illusions became what we call constellations nowadays. Horoscopy uses those constellations, planets and their movement in solar system to predict. Constellations are just configuration of stars as we see it from earth. The contradiction is how a personââ¬â¢s fate can be judged by the stars which are hundred million light-years away from earth. Constellations are nihility, and it is not necessary for astronomers to name each group of stars. Astronomers can simply assign a number to stars, but it will make astronomy somewhat boring for people. Therefore, in order to make it interesting and easy to remember, Greeks associated constellations with fairy tales. Astronomy is art of science, but unfortunately, horoscopy manipulates the original meaning of astronomy. Those who believe in it completely are losing their sense of judgment. Horoscopy is merely a combination of statistical and psychological techniques. First, astrologers collect the data about a group of people with same constellation. On the basis of collected data, they analyze people for similar characteristics. Second, they classify constellationââ¬â¢s characteristics with the

Consumer behaviour and organic food purchases Essay
Consumer behaviour and organic food purchases - Essay Example Present scenario is marked by an increasing requirement as well as craving for organic food by the consumers. This is so because they find organic food qualifying their parameters of quality and safety. Also the agricultural principles and practices of organic food are not harmful for the environment. The graph of this requirement may touch new heights in the future. Not all the countries have a uniform and same picture regarding the nature, standard and figure of production ,yet there is a remarkable swell in the number of organic farms in all European Union (EU) Member States since the 1992 reform of the common agricultural policy (CAP) However, in total just under 2 per cent of all agricultural area is devoted to organic farming, on more than 1 per cent of all agricultural holding (Hau and Joaris, 2000) .Study reveals that (Hau and Joaris, 2000).Producers provide two causes behind this growing inclination towards organic farming. The first impetus was given by the embracement of t he 1992 Mac Sharry reform that maintained the 'principle of decoupling' that formed the disassociation between market price and income support. EC Regulation 2078/92 administers it thereby compensating those farmers who are dedicated to agricultural means that are least unhealthy for the environment and are practicing moderate and mild agriculture not severe one. Council regulation 2078/92 brought into practice some agri-environmental ways that will boost up the sustention and conservation of organic farming. One such way is financially assisting organic farmers by paying up if they suffer any income failure during the conversion. The second reason accounting for the increasing interest in organic farming is situated in financial context-bigger financial benefits of the farmers in a saturated agricultural market. The production of organic food has seemed to have formed a distinct and important part of market. Small farmers, mostly conventional, who are unable to extract large gains in agricultural productions dominated by progressive technologies, are specially inclined toward organic food production (Shifferstein and Oude Ophius, 1998). So for the causes that are environmental and ethical both there is a certain political enthusiasm and appeal to raise the percentage of organic food production. Some agricultural catastrophes as pig plagues, mad cow disease and the foot and mouth disease acted as catalyst in providing a positive impulse to the interest in organic food production. But there are few impediments too in the way of enlarging the size of production. One major obstacle is that consumers find organic food a little more costly as compared to normal food. So, certain reluctance is visible in

Child Abuse Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Child Abuse - Research Paper Example The rates are probably much higher than these estimated numbers. Hence it is legal, ethical, moral and life-or-death decision to report and handle child abuse and neglect. It is not only difficult to identify abused children; it is also difficult to handle the management of these children. This article is intended to gain insight into various types of abuse, their effects on the children and strategies available to manage such children. Definition of child abuse and neglect The definition of child abuse and neglect varies from state to state and country to country. According to the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) of United States (cited in McDonald, 2007), abuse is "a recent act or failure to act that results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation, or imminent risk of serious harm; involves a child; and is carried out by a parent or caregiver who is responsible for the childââ¬â¢s welfare." The definition is for that abuse cause d by caregiver or parent of the child. Also, failure to act, because of which serious harm has resulted, is also considered as abuse or neglect. It is important to note that harm or negligence caused by other acquaintances or strangers is not considered as child abuse or neglect. While direct or indirect infliction of any sort of physical, mental or sexual injury is considered as child abuse, deprivation of the basic necessities like food, clothing, care and medical attention is considered as child neglect. Types of child abuse and neglect The most common type of child abuse is physical abuse. Anger on the part of the parent or caregiver can miscalculate the extent of damage that can be inflicted to the child resulting in physical injuries. In most cases, the injuries are unintentional. Physical abuse can occur from any form of physical act either by parent or caregiver or by any other person who is responsible for the child (McDonald, 2007). The injury may range from simple bruise to severe fractures. Since bruise is an indication of damage to body tissue and breaking of blood vessels, discipline methods which cause bruises are considered as child abuse. The physical abuse may even lead to death. These injuries are termed abuse irrespective of the intentions behind the acts. Neglect is another type of child abuse that merits importance (McDonald, 2007). Failure on the part of the parent, caregiver or guardian to provide for the basic needs of the child is called neglect. The neglect may be physical, medical, educational or emotional. Inadequate provision of required food, shelter and proper supervision is called physical negligence. Medical negligence is failure to provide proper medical care or appropriate mental health treatment. Failure to attend to appropriate education needs of the child on the part of the parent, caregiver or guardian is known as educational negligence. When there is no proper attention to the emotional and psychological needs of the ch ild, emotional negligence ensues (McDonald, 2007). Allowing the child to consume alcohol and take illicit drugs or other dangerous substances or drugs is also considered as emotional negligence because, children do not know the difference between right and wrong and it is the duty of the parents or caregivers to help them adapt to good conducts and behaviors (McDonald, 2007). When child abuse involves sexual activity which cannot be comprehended to by the child, it is known as sexual abuse. While

Entry 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Entry 2 - Essay Example In both qualitative and quantitative research designs, data would be collected from the responses on research questions hence the need for questions motivated by up-to-date literature, suiting the study, focused on the objectives and have a logical layout. The research questions could be answered in researcherââ¬â¢s own words or from selected optional responses, referred to as open or closed responses respectively, and could be combined in a data collection instrument, including a questionnaire and interview. This learning helps appreciate research design as an important tool in answering the research questions appropriately. This has been achieved through the application of the two major research designs including the true experimental design where subjects would be randomly assigned, and in cases where the researcher needs to focus on an intact group from a population, referred to as quasi experimental design. Their strengths lie in pre-test confirmation of equivalence on linguistic form, post-test examination on development of linguistic form being targeted and control group that solves logical
